TeamLab Botanical Garden is a permanent exhibition that opened at Nagai Park on July 29, 2022. It is a world-renowned digital art museum that combines art, technology, and nature to create immersive, interactive installations. Visiting TeamLab Botanical Garden is like stepping into a whole new world of art and tech magic.

I visited TeamLab Botanical Garden in late October 2023 and had a wonderful time with my husband and my 6-year-old boy. My kid was thrilled with all the lights and changing colors everywhere. Even if you stay in front of the same artwork for several minutes, you have the impression that it changes constantly, and it is really impressive.

TeamLab Botanical Garden offers a unique concept, mixing nature with digital technology. It is not like a traditional botanical garden, and it delivers a one-of-a-kind experience where visitors can interact with the environment. I was truly blown away by all the different areas in the park.

It is an excellent destination for families with children. Kids will be happy to explore the colorful displays and touch some digital elements, encouraging a sense of wonder and curiosity about the natural world. My kid wanted to touch and interact with everything because it all looked so magical to him.

The average visitor can spend between one and two hours at TeamLab Botanical Garden. It depends mainly on the weather during the day of the visit, on how much you want to see, and how slowly you want to take in the experience. If you are short on time, you can still get a good overview of the exhibition in about an hour.

It is difficult to say exactly how much time you should spend at TeamLab Osaka because it depends on your individual preferences, interests, and pace of exploration. However, to have a glimpse at all the areas, one hour should be considered the minimum duration if you have limited time. For a more leisurely and in-depth exploration, two hours is recommended. However, if you’re a photography enthusiast, you may want to budget closer to 2.5 hours for your visit.

Remember that TeamLab Osaka is not a race to be finished; it’s an invitation to slow down and be present.

Here’s a breakdown of suggested time allocations based on your desired level of immersion:

  • 1 hour: Bare minimum for a comprehensive experience
  • 2 hours: Ideal for a leisurely exploration and photography opportunities
  • 3 hours: Recommended for thorough exploration and deep engagement with the art

Keep in mind that weekends and holidays tend to be busier, so you may need to allocate additional time for waiting in line for popular exhibits.

Since there is no limit on how long you can stay after admission, it is better to pick the first time slot and enjoy the park at your own pace.

Please notice that TeamLab Botanical Garden opens after sunset, which means that the opening hours vary according to the season. The last entry is at 8:30 p.m. because the park closes at 9:30 p.m.

This means that if you visit during the winter, you will have much more time to explore and enjoy the experience than a visit during summer when the park opens later. To give you an idea of the opening hours, the earliest is 6 p.m. from November to January, while the later is 7.45 p.m. from June to July. Therefore, you can spend a maximum of 1 hour and 45 minutes during the summer and up to 3 hours and 30 minutes during the winter.

Also, notice that TeamLab Botanical Garden is closed on the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month, and there might be some exceptional closures for maintenance, but these will be announced on the official website.

By the way, if you want to know what you should book in advance for Japan, feel free to check out my other article.

It is possible to buy tickets using Teamlab’s official website, but some people have trouble with payment because most Japanese websites don’t accept some foreign credit cards. If you find yourself in this situation, the best thing is to buy the tickets from Klook, which accepts international payments and has several payment methods to choose from. Also, if you use Klook for all your bookings, you can have all your tickets in the same place to retrieve them easily.

Upon completing your online purchase, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a QR code that can be scanned at the museum entrance for swift entry.

You don’t need to print your ticket to enter TeamLab Botanical Garden, you only need to show the QR code at the entrance. However, it is a good idea to take a screenshot of your ticket and send it to a family member or friend traveling with you. By doing this, if you ever have an issue with your phone (lost phone, no battery, etc.), the other person has the ticket too, and you will be able to enter.

On my trip to Japan, I always made a copy of each ticket and sent it to my husband’s phone to ensure that we never had issues with tickets.
